Former Rhode Island Attorney General Jeff Pine Endorses Kim Ahern for Attorney General

Press Release

May 27, 2026 (PROVIDENCE, RI) — Former Rhode Island Attorney General Jeff Pine today endorsed Kim Ahern for Attorney General. Pine served as the state’s top law enforcement officer from 1993-1999, prior to which he spent a decade in the office as a criminal prosecutor.

“The Attorney General’s most important job is keeping Rhode Islanders safe, and deep experience as a criminal prosecutor is essential,” said Attorney General Pine. “In that respect, Kim stands apart from the other candidates in this race, having served the longest in the AG’s office and personally prosecuted more than a thousand criminal cases. She’s tough, she’s tested, and she’s ready to lead this office, and I’m proud to give her my full support and endorsement.”

“In many ways, my background is similar to Attorney General Pine’s when he first sought this office, having spent nearly a decade bringing Rhode Island’s most violent criminals to justice,” said Kim Ahern. “He knows what it takes to fight corruption, address domestic violence, safeguard our students, protect our seniors, and make our state safer and stronger, and I’m honored to have him with me in this fight.”

Attorney General Pine joins a growing list of people and organizations endorsing Kim Ahern’s campaign for Attorney General, including:

      • Rhode Island State Representative Edith Ajello

      • Woonsocket Mayor Christopher Beauchamp

      • Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena, Jr.

      • Former Governor and DNC Chair Howard Dean

Kim Ahern has served as Special Assistant Attorney General under Rhode Island’s past three attorneys general, where she prosecuted over 1,000 cases and brought justice to hundreds of victims. She also served as legal counsel to the past two governors and as the state’s first Chair of the Cannabis Control Commission. Kim lives in Providence with her wife Jenna and their three daughters.
