Rep. Edith Ajello Endorses Kim Ahern for Attorney General

Press Release

May 26, 2026 (PROVIDENCE, RI) — Rhode Island State Representative Edith Ajello (District 1 – Providence) today endorsed Kim Ahern for Attorney General. Ajello has represented the residents of the East Side of Providence since she was first elected to the State House in 1992. She was instrumental in the 2019 passage of the Reproductive Privacy Act and cosponsored the 2023 law that eliminated bans on abortion coverage for Medicaid recipients and state employees.

“We need a fighter in the Attorney General’s office who will stand up for women, for our LGBTQ+ community, and for all Rhode Islanders, and Kim Ahern is that fighter,” said Representative Ajello. “From campaigning for marriage equality, to advocating for reproductive rights, to protecting our most vulnerable neighbors during the pandemic, Kim has been a tireless champion for all Rhode Islanders. Rhode Island has never elected a Democratic woman as Attorney General, and it’s time to change that this September!”

“Over the past three decades, Rhode Island has become a stronger and more inclusive place, and Representative Ajello has been a driving force behind so much of that progress,” said Kim Ahern. “I’m honored to have her support in this campaign and I look forward to working together to stand up to the Trump administration and continue moving our state forward.”

Representative Ajello joins a growing list of people and organizations who have endorsed Kim Ahern’s campaign for Attorney General, including:

    • Woonsocket Mayor Christopher Beauchamp

She also served as legal counsel to the past two governors and as the state’s first Chair of the Cannabis Control Commission. Kim lives in Providence with her wife Jenna and their three daughters.
